Where It Began
The Inspiration for Rustic Retreat Deer Park LLC
The idea for Rustic Retreat Deer Park LLC came after Tom and Veronica Mueller adopted an orphan buck fawn, whom they named Buddy. Buddy quickly became part of the family, coming when called for, playing with the family dog, and providing love and companionship. Outside visitors soon came to meet, pet, and play with him. Unfortunately, Buddy passed away before turning one. Though his life was short, his love inspired Tom and Veronica to create a place where visitors could connect and enjoy nature.

The Early Days
Our Opening and First Tours
Rustic Retreat Deer Park LLC officially opened in 2019 in St. Anna. In the beginning, the park was home to 10 newborn whitetail fawns. After many visitors came to see the babies, Tom and Veronica decided to expand the space to accommodate more animals. In 2020, the park welcomed two wolf dog pups, Ace and Rosie. The pup's loving and playful nature brought created more excitement around the park, making it a must-see destination for lovers of wildlife and the outdoors.

The Park Evolves
A Growing Family and Reputation
The park’s growth didn’t stop with Ace and Rosie. In early 2022, it welcomed an eight-month-old bison calf named Brandy. Later that year, Benny, a tiny bull calf from South Dakota, came to the park and joined the ever-growing family of animals. In November of 2024, Tom and Veronica relocated from St. Anna to beautiful Athelstane, WI, bringing the family to share with their new community.
Since its founding and eventual move to Athelstane, Rustic Retreat Deer Park LLC has undergone many changes. However, its commitment to training animals and treating them with love and respect has never wavered. Proper training and care enable visitors to have hands-on interaction and experiences with the animals. These experiences and interactions have earned the park a sterling reputation among the visitors it welcomes daily.
